Unpacking The Benefits Of A Plant-Based Diet

A major multinational analysis involving data from over 400,000 adults across six European countries found that a healthy plant-based diet significantly reduces the risk of multimorbidity — the presence of two or more chronic diseases in one person, such as cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.
Researchers from the University of Vienna analyzed data from the large EPIC and UK Biobank study groups. They found that people who adhered to a plant-based diet had up to a 32 percent lower risk of developing multimorbidity. Such benefits were seen in both middle-aged and older adults. A healthy plant-based diet includes higher percentages of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, and plant-based meat alternatives, and less meat and animal products.
