Green Tea Linked To Improved Cognitive Performance
A small study suggests that drinking regular or roasted green tea may enhance mental task performance. The research involved 20 healthy adult men who consumed water, green tea, or roasted green tea and then completed multiple five-minute mental arithmetic tasks. They repeated the same process a month later.
After measuring the men’s physiological responses, the researchers found that tea consumption in general was associated with reduced signs of stress, including positive changes in tissue blood volume, tissue blood flow, and near-infrared spectroscopy responses. Interestingly, only the roasted green tea appeared to have an anti-fatigue effect, despite containing less caffeine than regular green tea. Although more research is needed, the investigators theorize that aromatic compounds found in green tea may influence mood and alertness.
