Low B Vitamins, Low Energy?
Researchers at Osaka Metropolitan University in Japan have found a link between certain vitamin deficiencies and chronic fatigue and low motivation, beyond common causes like stress and lack of sleep. They analyzed about 600 healthy Japanese adults by measuring blood levels of homocysteine (a substance linked to low vitamin B12 and folate/vitamin B9), along with participants’ fatigue and motivation levels.
The researchers found that higher homocysteine levels were associated with lower vitamin B12 and folate levels in both men and women. Men with higher homocysteine levels were more likely to experience greater physical fatigue, while women with higher homocysteine levels were more likely to report lower motivation. These links remained even after accounting for factors like age, sleep, workload, and diet. Their findings highlight the importance of maintaining a balanced diet to help keep homocysteine levels low and support energy and well-being.
