Why Do the Warrior II?
Tip of the Day

Each Sunday in October we will feature yoga poses and information, courtesy of Yoga Journal, that can help build a healthy body, mind and spirit.

If you want to increase stamina and express your inner fierceness, try the Warrior II Pose. It was named in honor of an incarnation of Shiva, a fierce warrior described as having a thousand heads, a thousand eyes, and a thousand feet, wielding a thousand clubs. But don’t be intimidated, this pose is fairly simple to master and has numerous benefits – it:

  • Strengthens and stretches the legs and ankles
  • Stretches the groins, chest and lungs, and shoulders
  • Stimulates abdominal organs
  • Relieves backaches, especially during the second trimester of pregnancy
  • Is therapeutic for carpal tunnel syndrome, flat feet, infertility, osteoporosis and sciatica
