TIERAONA LOW DOG, M.D.
Director of Scientific and Regulatory Affairs for Healthy Lifestyle Brands, LLC

An internationally recognized expert and educator in the fields of integrative medicine, dietary supplements, herbal medicine and women’s health, Dr. Low Dog has been a leader in the field of natural medicine for more than thirty years.

She was appointed by President Bill Clinton to the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy, and served for ten years as the elected Chair of the US Pharmacopeia Dietary Supplements and Botanicals Expert Information Panel. She was appointed to the Scientific Advisory Council for the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, has spoken at more than 550 scientific/medical conferences, published 40 peer-reviewed articles, written 20 chapters for medical textbooks, and is the co-editor of Integrative Women’s Health, part of the Weil Integrative Medicine Library series of textbooks published by Oxford University Press.

Dr. Low Dog is the author of National Geographic’s, Fortify Your Life, Life is Your Best Medicine and Healthy at Home, and co-author of National Geographic’s Medicinal Guide to Herbs. She serves on numerous editorial boards and is a frequent guest on the Dr. Oz show and NPR’s The People’s Pharmacy. She has consulted for many companies including Bath and Body Works, Neutrogena and Odwalla.

Her many honors include the Martina de la Cruz medal for her work with indigenous medicines (1998), a designation as Time magazine’s “Innovator in Complementary and Alternative Medicine” (2001), Bioneer’s award for Outstanding Contribution to Medicine (2002), the Burt Kallman Scientific Award (2007) NPR’s People’s Pharmacy Award for Excellence in Research and Communication for the Public Health (2010), Contemplative Care Award, New York Zen Center (2013), Leadership Award, Integrative Healthcare (2014) and the Clinician of the Year, Natural Products Association (2015).

RUSSELL H. GREENFIELD, M.D.
Dr. Greenfield is Clinical Professor of Medicine at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. He completed his residency training in emergency medicine at Harbor / UCLA Medical Center and subsequently entered into an administrative / teaching fellowship at the same institution. When he moved to Charlotte, NC he became involved in the emergency medicine residency program at Carolinas Medical Center, where he was honored as the inaugural recipient of the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Greenfield later became one of the first four physicians to graduate from the Fellowship in Integrative Medicine at The University of Arizona College of Medicine under the direct guidance of Dr. Andrew Weil.

Russ was a consultant in the development of national model guidelines for the use of complementary and alternative therapies, and is co-author of Healthy Child, Whole Child (2nd ed. HarperCollins, 2009). He was the founding medical director of Carolinas Integrative Health, a freestanding center owned and operated by the Carolinas HealthCare System, and currently maintains a small private medical practice in Charlotte. Russ lectures widely and and works with a variety of organizations promoting integrative wellness initiatives, including the VHA’s Office of Patient Centered Care and Cultural Transformation.

BRIAN BECKER, M.D.
Brian Becker, M.D., an honors graduate of the University of Arizona College of Medicine, has worked within the field of Integrative Medicine for three decades. Following undergraduate study in philosophy and ethics, he received his certification in Myotherapy from The Desert Institute of the Healing Arts in 1988, and has maintained a private practice in bodywork throughout his career in healthcare. After completing medical school and an internship in Family Practice, he was recruited to develop the initial curriculum within the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine (AWCIM) at the University of Arizona, where he currently holds an appointment as clinical lecturer. He is a contributor with acknowledgement in several books authored by Dr. Andrew Weil on the subject of Integrative Medicine, including “Natural Health, Natural Medicine,” “Spontaneous Healing,” “Eight Weeks to Optimum Health”, “Eating Well for Optimum Health” and “Healthy Aging”, and has directed the periodic revisions of those titles. Dr. Becker served as the Chief Science and Compliance Officer for Weil Lifestyle from 2001 to 2011, and headed product research and development for the initial Weil Brand affiliates including Vital Choice, Estee Lauder (Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins), and more. During this time he also served as medical editor for drweil.com and its associated publications, including Dr. Weil’s Self Healing Newsletter, daily Q and A, popular commentaries in Japan and the United Kingdom, and monthly articles in Prevention Magazine.

At present Dr. Becker heads LORIX Corporation, which was formed in 1997 to promote Integrative Medicine in the professional and private sectors, and serves as a national and international consultant in Integrative Medicine-related product development. He has a general medical practice in partnership with Dr. Andrew Weil, focusing on natural and preventive medicine. Dr. Becker lives with his family in Tucson, Ariz.

IRIS BELL, M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Bell is currently a Professor of Psychiatry and Psychology, with pending appointments in Medicine, Surgery, and the College of Public Health, as well as Director of Research for the Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. She also directs the NIH-funded T32 Clinical Research Training Program in Complementary and Alternative Medicine at the University of Arizona.

She is a clinical researcher with an emphasis on systems theory as a conceptual framework and the use of psychophysiological methodologies (EEG, cardiovascular) to study the linear and nonlinear effects of homeopathic remedies and low level environmental chemicals. In specific, she has studied neural sensitization as a mechanism for amplified reactivity to environmental factors in civilians with multiple chemical sensitivity and fibromyalgia and in Gulf War veterans. She is a Board-certified psychiatrist with added qualification in geriatric psychiatry who is also licensed to practice homeopathy/alternative medicine in the State of Arizona (MD[H]). She graduated from Harvard University magna cum laude in Biology, received her PhD in Neuro- and Biobehavioral Sciences and her MD from Stanford University, and completed her psychiatry residency at the University of California at San Francisco. Before joining the University of Arizona faculty in 1990, she served as a faculty member at the University of California at San Francisco and at Harvard Medical School.

RANDY HORWITZ, M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Randy Horwitz is the Medical Director of the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine (AWCIM), and Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. He is board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Allergy & Clinical Immunology. He attended graduate school at the University of Florida, where he received his PhD in Immunology and Molecular Biology. After this, he received his M.D. degree, and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at University Hospitals of Cleveland. This was followed by a three-year fellowship in Allergy & Clinical Immunology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a brief post-doctoral fellowship at the National Institutes of Health studying rheumatologic disorders. He studied with Dr. Weil as a Residential Fellow for 2 years at the University of Arizona, and has been the Medical Director of the Center since 2004, with a focus on mind-body approaches to illness, and a special interest in complementary and alternative therapies in allergic and immunological diseases. His book, Integrative Rheumatology (Oxford Press), was published in 2010.

DR. QINGCAI ZHANG, OMD
Upon graduation from Shanghai Second Medical University in 1962, Dr. Qingcai Zhang worked as a physician in a teaching hospital, The Reijing Hospital of the Shanghai Second Medical University in Shanghai, China, and doing clinical and research work to integrate Chinese and Western medicine. He was an associate professor of medicine at the medical university. In 1980, he was awarded a World Health Organization scholarship, which supported his two-year fellowship in Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. In 1984 he worked as a research fellow at the Wakai Clinic in Nagoya, Japan. A year later, he received a one-year appointment from the University of California at Davis as a visiting professor. Since 1986, Dr. Zhang has been the primary researcher at the Oriental Healing Arts Institute in Long Beach, Calif., where he conducted research on treating AIDS with Chinese medicine, designed herbal formulas for AIDS patients, and published two books on AIDS and Chinese medicine. He started his private practice in 1990, first in Cypress, California, and then moved to New York City in 1992. He is the founder of Zhang’s Clinic in New York City and White Plains, New York. Since 1987, he has been focusing on treating chronic viral diseases with modern Chinese herbal medicine, such as viral hepatitis and AIDS, infectious diseases, such as Lyme Disease, and autoimmune diseases, such as inflammatory bowel diseases, psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis.
