The Feldenkrais Method is named after its originator, Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais, D.Sc. (1904-1984), a Russian-born physicist, judo expert, mechanical engineer and educator. It is based on the principles of physics and biomechanics, and an empirical understanding of learning and human development. Practitioners use gentle movement and directed attention. The aim is to increase ease and range of motion, improve flexibility and coordination, and to rediscover an innate capacity for graceful, efficient movement. The Method is frequently used to help with stress and tension and to improve balance and coordination. Feldenkrais is considered a mode of learning whole-body movement rather than as a discipline of medical care.
