I just received an unsolicited mailing from Rejuvenation Laboratories of North America out of MI (who knows how they got my name much less mailing address!), and they are promoting (read "pushing") something called Medi-Collagenics which they are promising will cure everything from muscle aches to wrinkles, treat diabetes, and improve sex drive.  What do you (and Dr. Weil) know about this and whether collagen supplements really work?  Thanks.

Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies; it is present in our bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, arteries, veins and our skin. Click here: Collagen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Collagen is a protein that is composed of certain amino-acids, Vitamin C and minerals and I have used collegen supplements for patients w/ severe or chronic back aches or muscle strains.

It would not be involved in diabetes or sex drive; that is a big red flag there; I would not advise to  buy a collagen supplement from a company that makes false claims.

Collagen may be helpful in preventing wrinkles but if you took a good amount of Vitamin C, took a good multi-vitamin/minerals and ate sufficient proteins, you be getting the components of collagen. (Also good drinking water and good fats like Omega 3 are helpful for wrinkles)

Hope that helps!
