I am new to Qigong.

Is Qigong combined with walking  a good routine practiced regularily  for losing weight? Which should I start with first, Qigong or Walking? or is there a Qigong that incorporates walking at the same time?

Thanks,

Hermit65

Do you love it as we do?

We also have on our expert site Bill Douglas who is founder of World Tai Chi Day

and we have used his QiGong tape to great effect.

We don't know what is best for you (or each individual) but Dr. Weil says WALKING

but we do think they are two different types of exercise and mind clearing not mutually exclusive but not the same thing. So, it would not be one or the other but both in their time.

As to losing weight--walking helps and as Dr. Weil says Just Move.

I use to do Tai Chi, Yoga, and have done Qigong.

As far as weight-loss goes, for me, Yoga was far better, especially Power Yoga.

However, I've recently started doing Gilads Body Sculpting, which is on Fit TV, and it beats all the above. He does have some yoga postures in it once and a while, but over all, he gives you a good work out, thats not too taxing. I'm 58 years old, BTW.

I combine this with a daily walk at lunchtime, about 2 miles. I've lost 20 lbs and I'm just 8lbs away from my goal weight.

Bottom line however, you have to do what you enjoy, otherwise you won't stick with it.

Jim

Congrats, Jim, on being so close to your weight goal!  That's great.

Cross-training, such as you're doing, is (IMO) the very best technique for overall fitness.  It challenges the body in different ways and builds strength and stamina for different body systems: aerobic, breathing, flexibility, etc.

Good for you!

Yes, I love Qigong.

Thank You for the reply, and the info about the Tai Chi/Qigong DVD. I will check it out.

Good news as we love it too.

And, do enjoy walking--do you have an Ipod or something that you could listen to books or music or podcasts while you walk?

Yes I have an mp3 player that is used frequently. Qigong is great it energizes my mind and body. will probably make it my primary daily exercise along with walking.

Will experiment to determine if I should practice first then walk or the otherway around.

Thanks

Thanks, I will.

I have also started practicing Thich Nhat Han's "Mindful Movements" which is very easy on the body,  and very easy to remember. It can be practiced anywhere. I practice it at work during breaks. It seems to be similar to Qigong in the sense of paying attention to the breath and the movements, how each movement feels, what works and what does not, all with a smile. This is very relaxing.
