I've read reports about glucosamine raising your cholesterol levels and wondered if anyone can substantiate this claim. After receiving a not so good report of my cholesterol levels (my last report was fine and since I am a vegetarian etc it was a puzzlement to me), I stopped taking glucosamine which had really been helping me!! Now I am considering going back on it because I am having a lot of knee pain. So....what have you heard?

 Hello

This is what you are referring to?

Glucosamine Sulfate. Glucosamine sulfate provides the joints with the building blocks they need to help repair the natural wear on cartilage caused by everyday activities. Specifically, glucosamine sulfate provides the raw material needed by the body to manufacture a mucopolysaccharide (called glycosaminoglycan) found in cartilage. Supplemental sources are derived from shellfish. Taken in supplement form, glucosamine may help improve the maintenance of healthy cartilage with an enhanced deposition of glycosaminoglycan.

I can't find anything in the files on glucosamine raising cholesterol but each person is different of course.

You have tried ginger and turmeric for joint pain?

I didn't read about this on Dr. Weil's website, but through some other forums on the internet.  I do take tumeric, but it doesnt seem to do the job that the glucosamine did. Thanks for responding...anyone else have the same reaction with it?

I, too, have knee pain (osteoarthritis and injuries to both knees) and have found that taking the combination of both ginger and turmeric at the recommended dosage on the bottles has helped me tremendously.  I take the brand recommended by Dr. Weil and have been doing so for the past 2 to 3 years.   I have noticed that consistently taking the combination of both of these powerfulantiinflammatory  herbs has significantly decreased the inflammation in my body and I now have a very high quality life style.  Maybe this combination could benefit you too.

Can you please provide any info on Cholesterclear?  It claims to be FDA Approved but it is not indicated on the box, and  it also claims to::

  • Drop Cholesterol Levels Up To 60%

  • Drop Triglyceride Levels Up To 75%

  • Healthier Heart Health

  • Enjoy the Foods You Love

I have been taking it for about 3 weeks, and will not know if it works, as must take it  for about 3 mos,  then  I must fast for 12 plus hours , then go to the DOCTOR  for a blood test.   Would you know if there is a reliable safe home kit for a blood test, so it will save the time of  travelling to and waiting in the Doctors office for a blood test?

  • My Doctor has informed me that my body/liver is  producing the excess cholesterol, and it is not related to my diet, as my total Cholesterol numbers have increased over the years from 185 to 200 to 225 and currently are 254. Total LDL -C 170, Triglycerides are good at 79.

  • Although I have been taking Omega 3 Fish Oils with Garlic for years, along with Vit E-Mixed Tocopherols,  Vit D-800 mg, Vit C with Echinecia,  Extra Strength Saw Palmetto Complex, Gloucosamine Condroitin with MSM, Bromelain, and an Ultra Mutivitamin,  my Cholesterol has been increasing.

I would sincerely appreciate any info that you can provide...Thank You..
