I have numerous allergies to scents and chemicals, I switched to the old style double edge razor and wet shaving about 2 years ago, even the strips on cartridge razors irritated my skin hence the switch.
Since then I've been looking for a "Safe" unscented soaps, I've come across many hand made unscented soaps on the internet, but there all caustic, using sodium hydroxide (Lye). The ewg lists the ingredient as "moderate hazard" Now I'm not a chemist but allot of what I read states that if it's made correctly there shouldn't be any sodium hydroxide left in the product. I just don't get that, if it's used to cause a reaction to make soap then there must still be at least a residual in the end product. I found one vendor that uses a cold process that's not caustic but they do not offer a scent free soap (go figure).
All this may sound a bit crazy and worrying over nothing, but this is a product that is on your skin every day or every other day, and so far I still get rashes from some of the soaps I've tried.
Anyone have suggestions? Edited by: Photofabix on Jan 19, 2009 7:05:02 PM |

i use nivea shaving cream. you might also try cetaphil (i don't think they make a shaving cream, but their 'cleanser' would work as shaving cream substitute.)
as a side note....
i used to get acne and thought it was because of chemicals, scents, so i tried every shaving cream under the sun, but to no avail
i've discovered my problem was internal not external, i.e. my thyroid was messed up and that was causing my acne. |

One of the numerous issues I face is my thyroid, back in 2005 my doctor told me to monitor it as in one test it was high, another it was low, she thought down the road that it could be a problem. My mother's thyroid has completely shut down, she has something called Hashimottos disorder with her thyroid. My weight balloned to 310 in 2005 and from 2006 to now I've lost 150 pounds (100 of which in less then 10 months), no one can explain it, and I'm still dropping weight.
I don't have any medical coverage, and I haven't worked in about 2 years do both to no work here and numerous medical problems. Last blood work I had was a year ago I asked them to check my thyroid levels and they said it's fine.
