They (the raw cheese) taste just like...CHEESE!!!! they are real cheese..I was so delighted....just make sure the word "raw " is on the lable... it is "real" cheese ( actually, the way cheese was made for centuries before pasturization came into vogue ...just not made from pasturized (heat treated) milk...so no fake cheese taste)...I know what you are getting at..I have tried rice cheese, soy cheese....almond milk cheese...none compare with "real" cheese!.....try it.....it doesn't cause me the digestive/breathing  issues as before...regular cheese (especially blue cheese and hard type cheesed) would cause an almost immediate sensation of not being able to breath...I would feel my throat close up and I would cough uncontrollably for hours after eating it....as for the "butter " subs...I think my favorite is "Earth Balance".....it is available at most health food stores...or you can do an on line seach and order there....I happen to work in a health food store in Rochester NY...so my options are limitless....but I have a friend in Kansas, who has to order her healthy alternatives on-line....either way....we have many options.....enjoy them all...some stuff is tastier than others..but this is a great learning adventure...... having food sensitivities opens our eyes and souls to a healthier way of being.....just my experience......BTW...my husband and kids REFUSE to eat ANYTHING with the word ORGANIC on the lable..!!!!I am trying to coax them, but they have set their heels......so...come what may, I for one will do my best to become the healthiest I CAN BE!!lol>>>>

Ginger, I've been looking and looking for the postings where you told me you take CoQ10.  I'm pretty sure it was you that told me that.  If so, can you share what strength you take?  Are they capsules or gels - and can you tell me what brand?

Still plugging along here.....

Hi jiraffe,

I don't think that it's rice per se that's making you sick......in fact, freshly cooked rice is supposed to be gentle on the 'tum', and can help avoid the kind of bloating and discomfort sometimes caused by wheat products, (for example). Also, as you say, the problems you've had don't seem to 'make sense' when connected to lactose inrolerance. However, eating rice that has been reheated because one may have cooked loads the day before, and left it in the fridge overnight, CAN cause stomache problems in the form of a minor food poisening, because a bacteria can occur on rice that's been left over, and unless you actually quickly freeze the rice, and then cook/reheat it to a very high degree the next day, there is a possibility that the stuff will give you 'gip'.

I love rice cos it calms my tum and does not leave me feeling bloated, but after having suffered from feeling sick in the past because of reheating rice I'd cooked the day before........Well, never again. : )

That is something that I never thought of but I believe you're right.   That's exactly what I've done from time to time...  reheated rice that I made the day before.  I couldn't figure out why it made me sick the second day.  Where did you learn that?  You're very smart...

I currently take 100mg chewable tablets of CoQ10 that I buy from a local homeopathic doctor.  She has her own brand.  I did at one point buy another brand which were gel caps but when I opened the bottle they were red.  I did use them since they are fairly expensive.  I don't buy them anymore due to the red dye; even though they didn't seems to bother me.  I do pay $70 for a bottle of 60 tablets but for me it is worth it.  The ones I buy are also milk, egg and gluten free.  I buy the chewable ones only because I sometimes have problems swallowing pills.

Are these chewable tablets by chance made by Enzymatic Therapy?  My homeopathic doctor uses a lot of their products, although I haven't approached the CoQ10 subject with her yet, and I buy the Enzymatic acidophilus pearls.

Hi jiraf.

Actually, I found out about the 'reheated rice' problem about ten years ago. I used to get inexplicable bouts of sickness and stomach cramps on occasion......just like a sudden onset of mild food poisoning, which I couldn't fathom as I'm a vegetarian, and keep a very hygienic household. My GP didn't know what was wrong, so I asked my friend who owns a health food shop if she could suggest some herbal remedy. Anyway, after talking through my diet, and the occasions when the sickness struck, she asked if I ever reheated rice cooked the day before, and explained how this bacteria can occur.....and flourish if the rice isn't chilled instantly and then reheated at a very high temperature......But of course, most of us allow leftover rice, to cool down BEFORE we pop in in the fridge.

I've only ever eaten freshly cooked rice since, and the problem disappeared. You can find a lot of info' about this on the net if you google 'reheating rice'. I guess that not everyone will be affected the way we have been, but there can be a big problem for some people......so why take the risk?
