I am on Zocor for high Cholesterol.  The multivitamin that I am taking has some Niacin in it.  I was told not to take Niacin with Zocor.  The Niacin is about 20 mil.   Is this a same dose of Niacin or should I get a different Multi?    My second question is about iron.  Dr Weil is against taking a Iron supplement.  The Anit Oxidant tabs that Im taking have 10 mil of iron.  Should I be concerned?  Im a 52 yr old male.

Hello
DO DO follow the instructions for your medication--in this case Zocor.
And Dr. Weil on iron

  • Iron deficiency. (Do not take iron unless you've been tested and your doctor has recommended a supplement - it can do more harm than good if you don't need it.)

Perhaps you would want to take the Free Vitamin Advisor available under Dr. Weil's picture above and see what they suggest for your conditions and medications?

What do you think?

I don't know about the niacin question but please make sure you take CoQ10 if you're taking Zocor.  This will help with the muscle problems.  I read this on this website at one time.  My sister had to take a similar drug.  I told her to take CoQ10 but she didn't get it right away.  A few weeks later she called and said that she had bought it and it really helps eliminate the muscle pain which is a side effect.  I have another sister that has permanent muscle damage from Zocor partly because her doctor didn't tell her how serious this problem is.  That sister now walks with a cane and she is only 61 years old.

I personally will never take a drug like this.  If my cholesterol gets high enough I will change my diet and lifestyle.
